We understand that choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make, and we are delighted that you are considering Thomas’s Kensington.
Lower School: Reception to Year 2
The journey begins in the Lower School, where we place great importance on creating a nurturing, stimulating and purposeful environment in which every child feels secure, known and valued.
In these early years, we aim to ignite a lifelong love of learning. Our pupils develop strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics, alongside essential communication, social and physical skills. Learning is both joyful and intentional: pupils are encouraged to question, explore and make sense of the world around them through a blend of carefully planned teaching and meaningful, hands-on experiences.
Play remains a vital part of this process. Through purposeful play, pupils practise and refine skills, collaborate with others, and develop curiosity, creativity and resilience.
Alongside this, specialist teaching in areas such as music, drama, dance and physical education enriches the curriculum and broadens pupils’ experiences from the earliest stages.
We place equal importance on developing positive learning habits: attention, independence, perseverance and collaboration, ensuring that children not only learn well, but learn how to learn. By the end of Year 2, pupils are confident and articulate, equipped with strong foundations and a growing sense of curiosity about the world around them.
Prep School: Years 3 to 6
As pupils move into the Prep School, their learning develops in both depth and breadth. Academic expectations rise, and pupils are increasingly challenged to think critically, make connections across subjects and take greater ownership of their work.
A broad and ambitious curriculum is enriched by specialist teaching, enabling pupils to engage deeply with their learning across academic, creative and physical disciplines. Strong foundations in literacy and numeracy are developed with increasing precision, while pupils are encouraged to reason, question and think independently.
Alongside academic development, pupils grow in confidence, responsibility and leadership. They take an active role in the life of the school, developing the independence and self-discipline needed for the next stage of their education.
Pupils at Thomas’s Kensington go on to a wide range of leading senior schools, many with scholarships and awards. Throughout this process, our focus remains on ensuring that each child moves on to a school that is right for them, supported by tailored guidance for both pupils and families.
By the time they leave, pupils are not only academically well prepared, but self-assured, intellectually curious and ready to contribute positively to the world around them.
